Let's look at the Steps To Spiritual Usefulness:
1. Step number one is repent. Peter and Jesus had a conversation. Peter's faith didn't fail but his love did. His love came up lacking. "The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter (Luke 22:61)." The key to this passage is not Jesus looking at Peter, but Peter looking back at Jesus. That's what repenting is, looking back at Jesus knowing that Jesus can forgive you. Peter was sorry. Judus was sorry but he never repented.
2. Step number two is restoration. Restoration implies that something was lost or damaged and then regained. If a bone is broken, that bone has to be reset. This takes a restoring process. It can involve time, pain, and the loss of certain mobility and freedom until it is fully functioning again. When a bone heals, it is actually stronger in the mended place, and if it breaks again, it probably won't break in the same place.
