"God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection (in Greek this is the internal organs, guts, seed of emotions) of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:8)." The affection in this verse means the splanchna of Jesus. Splanchma is the overwhelming compassion someone feels towards another person in need. "When Jesus landed and saw the large crowd, he had compassion (splanchna) on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd (Mark 6:34)." We need to start seeing people with the heart of Jesus. This enables us to put pain into perspective. The two purposes of pain:
1. It show us that God can hold us together.
2. It shows others that God can hold them together.
Two things happen when we put pain into perspective:
1. We begin to see what Jesus sees when he looks at others.
2. We begin to feel what Jesus feels.
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you (John 15:12)."
